Default Check out these fans

I got these out of a 1990 Lumina. 30 bucks and they move gobs of air. The is the mock up, I will clean and paint everything up before it goes back into the car. The plan is to stage them with higher temps and a/c the same way they were in the lumina.

Looks like a good idea. They should look great once cleaned up and painted.

Make sure you post a follow up. Most guys just seem to disappear after a post like this one and we never see the end result of their project.

Good Luck, Les

I didn't like the lumina fans, they spin slower than most of the other fans attached to th 4cylinder motors. But you can swap out the fan motors pretty easy if you notice a cooling problem, its just another trip to the junkyard away. I have a 14.5" fan from an older cavalier and then theres a reverse rotation 12" fan from a newer cavalier. They work great, are pretty quiet, but both fans on, fuel pump and the headlights on at night with the low speed alternator pulley really tax teh 75 amp alternator. I need to upgrade but haven't had time to. Good luck those should work great for a small block.

evalu8r thats great. I threw in this fan I got at a swap meet for $15. Besides cleaning I also checked the brushes to make sure they still had some meat on them. It cools fine but there are two reasons I want to change to dual fans. Duals will blow more air over my headers to help keep the engine bay cool. Second, this fan is a screamer and I want something QUIETER!

BTW 442olds that fan housing is saweet!

I was wondering if anyone has tried using the duel fan setup off of the third gen.Camaros and Firebirds. They seem to be pretty common.
Thanks

Boofers, I like the way that fits in the old shroud. I've run both fans in a series and side by side. Wired in a series they seriously slow down but side by side you have to hold on. I'm confident that one will do the job. If you look closely one motor is larger than the other. The large one is on the left side since that is where the hot fluid enters, the smaller on the right is just for backup and a/c. I'll probably use painless wiring and relays, I used them on a 37 Nash and it's a breeze. I'll post pics when the cleaning and painting is done. I'll get back to these once some of the other fish are done frying.

What year of corvette are you working on? Looks like a great idea, do you really need a much cooler engine bay? I'm working on my 76' and was just curious...

If for any reason those don't work well for you, you can get a set
off of 93-97 camaro/firebird and they fit perfect with a shroud.
All you have to do is fab some brackets, and they pull air like crazy.

they look like crap now, but everything will be taken apart and painted
when the weather gets a little better for me

Those look real good. What did those cost you? How loud are they? Mine have to shroud ring around the blades so that's all there is to it and there pretty quiet.

I use a 2 speed fan from a 94 mustang (4.6/5.0). Easy to install with minimum fabrication.

Default Corvette fans need a shroud!!!

Evalu8r and boofers,
I commend you guys on your fabrication work, but have to inform you both that they will not be as efficient as you would like. Because the C3 Corvette is about the only car ever made with a radiator that is not vertical, the air has trouble flowing through them and they can be a bitch to cool.

Boofers, if you could fill in that area between the o.d. of your fan and the i.d. of your shroud, it would be a lot more efficient as ALL of the incoming air would then be forced to go past the fan. As it is, the fan can pull air from BEHIND the radiator, i.e. the engine side, around the o.d. of the fan and then back through yhe fan when the car is at rest or travelling slowly, and pulling very little air through the radiator. At speed, you won't have that problem but it's when the car is stationary or moving slowly when you need it most.

Evalu8r, pretty much the same with your set up, although your fans appear closer to the radiator and should work better than boofers' set up. But not as good as if they were mounted in a closely fitting shroud that allows the fans to pull ALL of their air through the radiator.

I used to sell diesel engines and we had to know a lot of stuff about cooling fans, shrouds, air flow, etc. Good luck with your projects.

Regards from Down Under

The engine is cooled just fine right now since its -3 degrees here
Anyways, thanks for the tip buddy. I will give it a shot.

Thanks for the input, I plan on measuring the cfm when I get them wired up. The initial test runs they move tons of air together and individually. The design of these fans is the shroud is built into the perimeter of the blades, I was hesitant myself but no I'm pretty confident. Heres a pic of the final product.
