Default Muncie inputshaft seal?

I`ve noticed that if the car is paked at an incline with the nose down it tend to dribble some oil from the bellhousing.
I remember reading somewhere that the inputshaft doesnt have a seal due to fact that it uses this gap as a vent?
Is there anything that can be done to prevent this or is something busted?

There is no seal on the input shaft, but there is one on the bearing retainer/shaft collar. The Muncie's are prone to leak at the counter shaft. Pull the trans. back enough to clean the case and shaft surfaces,(I use brake cleaner) and then silicone over the shaft end and adjoining case. Re-install trans.

If it were the countershaft that`s leaking, shouldnt the oil emerge between the Bellhousing and tranny and not drip in to the bellhousing?

If it is on the inside, it may be a rear main seal (engine) leak. You would have to be on a radical slope to have lube come out the input shaft.

Look at the countershaft end in front of the tranny. You should be able to see this from under the car. The countershafts tend to "egg out the hole" like a posi center pin does. As it enlogates the hole the oil will leak, let go long enough and the gears will clash. This can be repaired by bushing the housing and rebuilding it. The new aftermarket housings use a bushed hole and cap there now.

There are no front seals on Muncies and if the countershaft were to be leaking you WOULDN'T HAVE OIL IN the bellhousing. The "gland nut" sometimes will wear and move further away from the front retainer. This air leak can cause the oil leak. The GAP between a new retainer and nut is very tiny. So if the retainer is grooved, nut is worn, or some synthetiic oil is used it will leak out of the front retainer if on a steep incline.
