Out for a drive today and heard a whiney sound from engine, and after the drive my water temp gauge was peged the opposite way to the left dead.(engine still running) Has my water Pump failed? Thanks
If your water pump has failed the Vette should have overheated and the needle on the gauge would be all the way to the right in the red.
Normally before the water pump fails it will leak water from the weep hole that is built into the front of it. Look for signs of weepage near that hole, also grap your fan and see if it will tilt or rock back and forth, if it moves back and forth, like it's loose that means the bearing
on the shaft are going bad and it will start weeping water very soon.

Temp sender is brass and in drivers side head. Look for a lt brown wire just behind the alternator, it leads to the temp sender. If it has fallen off, it clips on the disk shapped top of the sender. This is a likely scenario. If the wire is on and making good contact, you may have a bad sender or gauge. The sender is easy to replace and not very expensive, but the gauge is a PITA. Good luck, hope it is a loose wire.
Thanks, now that I think of it it could be a loose wire, because on that drive I was exiting the freeway at about 50 and some dumb girl decided "oh I'm gonna exit too" at the last minute. And proceeded to cut me off and I had to slam on my brakes and left a 15 foot skidmark with smoke curling behind me like a F16 landing on a carrier.. Holiday crowds....not a good time for a drive.
