HV Oil pump ?
I tried this in another thread but didn't get a definite answer.
New HV oil pump on a new unstarted 454 engine is making noise when I try and prime the engine. The shaft (metal collar) is engaged so that's not the problem. It didn't make the noise the first time I primed the engine last week. Now it makes a clicking or ratcheting sound..that doesn't sound right (normal pumps will make the sound I'm trying to describe if you try and spin them in reverse). It makes the noise even when turned slowly clockwise with a screwdriver. There is new 20/50 oil in the pan.
Is the pump broken? Or, should I try and start the engine anyway?
Should I see oil pressure on the guage just by cranking the engine with the plugs out?

Not something you should gamble with, I
would replace the pump and reprime til you see oil coming out of each push rod. Before you install the pump place in a container of oil and prime by hand. Not sure you should break a new engine in with 20w 50, I would recommend a lighter oil like 10W 30.
