I would use the GM Posi additive anyway - I won;t hurt. I don't believe Castrol has any/sufficient additives.
I think any 30 weight synthetic engine oil is fine for a stick shift tranny, of any vintage...I put it into my Muncie some years ago and drove it for about 2-3 years, it smoothed out the shifting something wonderful.....
I have heard of oils light as ATF in differentials...not sure about the posi thing though.....frankly some posi additive and a load of 30 weight synthetic engine oil is what I"d use, and intend to use next time I have that diff out....
thanks for the infos, but what is the use of the additives on the differential? why a simple diff oil won't do? just a curiosity...actually i cant easily find this GM additives where i live at the moment...that's why i was looking for an alternative..
What is the best way to get the old diff fluid out and the new fluid in?
I drilled and tapped my carrier while I was changing gears so I now have a drain plug. If no drain plug remove the plug in the diff cover and get a "sucker" or something to suck the fluid out. This will not get it all out but the majority of it will be sucked out. Then refill in the same filler hole. Only fill until some fluid comes out the hole. It is then full.
