I installed some poly bushings in a friends car and the squeak badly. I am about to install some in my 71, what do you do to stop the squeak? is there a special lube?
Often times when you install poly bushings they include a small tube of teflon grease with them. Of course, they never send enough, so I always slather them with some more teflon grease. You can buy it at Wal-Mart in the auto section it is Teflon Ball-Hitch Lube. Or you can get fancy and order it from where ever you bought the bushings. If they are already on the car and squeeking, I would try some silicone spray or you can use the spray lube that has teflon in it.
I have been replacing oem rubber bushings with Energy Suspension bushings and have had no squeaks. I lubed them with Amsoil synthetic high temp racing grease that I used on my wheel bearings.
I installed poly bushings and the squeaking drove me crazy. No matter what I tried they still squeaked. I replaced them with OEM rubber and it's silent .....
I've never had a squeak out of ES bushings, even after moving them from car to car (one wrecked Talon to my new one a few years ago). I can't help but wonder if those who get squeaks use cheap poly bushings. Anyway, just give them a good coating of that sticky grease.
It's called Tef-cone. It's a teflone and silicone based grease. I don't know if stores sell it or not. We buy the little packs in bulk. They are like 25 cents a pack.
Most colored poly bushings will squeak if not lubed.
The newer Energy Suspension bushings in black are impregnated with graphite to reduce "dry squeak".
White lithium can be bought in and areosol can or tube...makes it EZ to get to some bushings.
my poly bushings squeak a little, a shot of spray silicone solves the problem. I usually spray them in the spring when I'm changing the oil & filter, chassis lube, etc., getting ready for the driving season.
Auto Zone sells Die-Electric grease. It's a clear viscous grease used in electrical applications and works well as a lube on poly bushings for me. Big tube is $6. I use it on window tracks, door hinges/latches etc. It looks just like stuff I've been sent with ploy bushings.
Some people on the Forum recommended Marine Grease. Bought a tub at the local boat store, after all a Corvette is a boat, and used it on my trailing arm poly bushings. All is well. The grease is very sticky and waterproof.
i use a german grease i get from escalators. greatest stuff on the planet. used to be cases of it in elevator machine room in the pentagon metro station before 911. i still have about 10 cans. use it on everything

Di-Electric grease is silicone grease, so it would also work pretty well.
