Default 76 steering question??

OK, steering guru's...I have an honest, concerning question in the steering area..... I will have possession of the 76 a year this coming May...and never drove a Vette until I bought the old girl...my steering REALLY responds to a slight turn of the steering wheel, and referencing to my 2000 Mustang, the Vette "SEEMS" to be, well, over-steering, but I'm not sure if it's the nature of the beast, or if it is a problem waiting to happen...it does run the "S"-s real smooth...damn, I'm just confused
Could somebody chime in here???

You have fourteen different thoughts there in one sentence that doesn't make a lot of sense. Slooooowwwwww down so we can understand you!

Yes the handling on these cars suffers a bit. When you consider the four wheel independent suspension, coupled with multi-piston calipers on the brakes, the car should handle well. But the technology - all of it used here - is very early sixties era technology.

Actually, I thought I was rather clear...the 2000 drives like a vehicle we're all used to in the year 2005...the vette, is different, feeling like it over-steers...ultimmate question is...is it normal or possibly needing repair...and not familiar with these special vehicles, I have concerns...and am asking for advise...but for you, I'll SSSLLLLOOOOW down

I just rebuilt the front end on my '76 this past summer. In doing so, I expected it to handle a whole LOT better, but was disappointed. The mistake I made was not doing the rear at the same time! In a car with independent rear suspension, the rear affects handling as much as the front end.

I replaced the upper and lower control arms, bushings, ball joints, sway bar links and frame bushings, and the front shocks. Complete rebuild on the front suspension.

However even though it was aligned to good performance-based specs in the front, the rear was still far enough out to cancel out a lot of the hard work I performed on the car.

End result: I still have oversteer!

Next year I will to the rear end but for now I'll have to drive it like it is. In my case, I've got a rear toe-in problem as well as poor camber on one side. So even though the front end is all new, and aligned, I still wish it handled better.

OK, that considered...might you suggest, as a starting point for ME, to have the front and rear aligned, and see if I have a change in response?
See, the question still is, I don't have anything to reference the vette to, such as another vette that is considered "a good handling car" by most folks...I just have the 'Stang...I hope I am making myself clear...
OK, rihwoods, ya beat me to the draw...gotcha

Don't take it to a dealer unless your father owns the place! Take it to a Corvette shop that's in your area that you can trust or have good reports from other owners. And I agree also with the comments about the 4 wheel alignment, I had mine done and it made a big difference. I also replaced the trailing arms, stub axles, ball joints, etc., etc. (get ready!)

Also, correctly adjusting the power valve will help.

Actually, I went to school with Matt, he's the manager at this store..and took my service truck there often for service when I was on the road...
Well, now I'm torn...I got an email from Marcel's corvette shop that is 20-25 minutes from here...he sez he can do it no sweat, but would rather have a shop close to me...this Firestone is across town, a couple minutes...would Firestone fit the bill, in your opinion they could "reliably" do the job???

I've found them dependable/careful in the past..have not used them for alignments though...at least you know Marcel's has done C3's...

Yeah....well, gonna stop off at Firestone this afternoon and see what they say about the job, price and all that rot...feel them out a bit, if they hedge on me even a little, Marcel will do it...
Thanks, Rich
