I received my carb & distributor back from Lars and am about to install it. I have a quick question that I forgot to ask Lars. I have what appears to be a phonolic spacer between the intake and the carb.
My question is... it didn't have gaskets on either side of it. Does it self-seal itself? Should I use gaskets? Should I replace it with a new one, assuming one is available. It appears to be in good shape, but does have indentions one both sides matching the indentions of the intake and carb.
It's an organic fiber insulator/gasket, not phenolic, Dick. It is the gasket and requires no other gaskets. The rings inserted into the gasket keep you from using your super-human strength to crush and split the gasket or crack your throttle plate.
You should put a new gasket on.You should be able to get a new one at just about any auto parts store
.The new gasket will probably be made out of a grey gasket type of a material. It will work better that the old one.
