Default Crate 454/502 70 BB

Anyone out there replaced a BB ('70) with crated ZZ454 or ZZ502 in their car? I realize there are clutch linkage and fuel pump issues w/502. Whatever choice is made will be in front of a Keisler TKO 600, 3.70. Current engine is 454. Major issue will be hood clearance with either???? Any input/thoughts//experience/opinions appreciated.

We did a ZZ-454 in a '71 a few months ago. All went fine. Of course, you have to use an original height intake manifold. I think the one that comes with the crate engine is way too tall.

Yeh, about 1 1/2" too tall When I bought this 502, I forgot to account for the fact that carbs are leveled on the intake and the RamJet intake is not. When I projected forward to measure clearance I was off on my measurement. That little mistake cost me some hood rework

I put zz454 in my 71 back in july. The intake has to be changed. It is way too tall. I also had to change the water pump as mine came with a long nose. Maybe they will put a short nose on before they ship it to you. I went with the aluminum head motor and had to notch the exhaust manifolds so they would clear the bolts on the heads. The only other problem I had was the block didn't come tapped for the ball stud for the clutch z bar. I purchased a bracket which worked out fine.
Outside of that I love the motor.
If you do a thread search on my post's you will see a few pics of it.
Good luck
Tony

I had the same problem but you don't have to notch the exhaust manifolds. ARP has a set of head bolts that are lower profile. I called them and they sold me just the 8 that go under the exhaust manifold. I posted the bolt part no. somewhere on a previous thread.
