I wanted to see if anyone had put a Chevrolet 350 HO 355HP Crate Engine in their 1978 Vette. I had asked the question and got two replies. My concern is the clearance on the factory hood and the taller intake. Any feedback in this regard. The ZZ 4 has a shorter intake but I really like the 330 HP Crate engine from Chevrolet performance parts.
I don't want to place a different hood on the car.

i'm GUESSING you probably will be ok.....you will need a drop base air filter though...i have performer intake, 1/2 spacer, heat shield, TV cable bracket and a 750 speed demon on my 77 and i do not hit the hood. we all worry about the clearance issue i know i did but in reality i haven't seen too many times where it turned out to be a major obstacle to overcome
I have the GM Crate 350 HO in my '77, along with an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Edelbrock 1406 600cfm Carb, and a 14'' x 3'' Aircleaner with a .75'' drop, also added a .25'' heat gasket to the carb, and I still have some room.

I was concerned because of the extra height of the intake on that Chevrolet engine. I want to stay with the 330 hp crate versus the 355 hp crate. The 355 hp intake is shorter. The 330 hp engine is pretty much turn key from chevrolet pp.

I plan to use the original air breather after cleaning and chroming up part of it.
Stock hood. I had to make the drop base drop a little more and at an angle. I doubt your intake will be as tall as a victor though so you should be fine.
