76 L-48 Coupe
The shop I use removed the rear end for a complete rebuild, replaced the rear wheel bearings both sides (end play set), replaced the e brake pads, replaced the side yokes and lock rings, all u joints replaced.
The shop has been great about it, as a matter of fact he has removed the rear end to check the clutches and fluid twice !
The problem is the right rear still makes a bump and grind noise while turning in a tight radius in either direction.
The trailling arm bushings look great and all the shims are in place.
Thats the thing, been there and done that ...................twice. The clutches have been replaced and the diff fluid put in. Is there something else in the rear end that could be messed up causing this?
From: the land of a never ending frame-off resto-mod. May Visa have mercy on my soul.
Have you tried making several tight circles in a parking lot in both directions? This will help pull lube up into the clutches. This is a common problem. It will usually work.
There is a small clip that retains everything in alignment in the center core. one of them was broken when they installed new clutches or came loose putting in the short shaft. changed the carrier and rebuilt once more and worked fine just will not hold the power I am putting out. I need help there.
I replaced that too. Could it be warped rotors ? Trailing arms ? Everything looks and checks out good but something is making that noise................................... .....
My '68 Vert does the same thing, funny thing is that it never did it before I rebuilt the Diff. I was changing the ring & pinion at a pro shop & decided to get a rebuild while I was at it. Added two bottles of aditive (second one after noticing the noise). Seems to go away with miles and come back after the winter shut-down. I stopped worring about it.
Okay, How do I drain and then refill the diff fluid ?
Thanks
The differentials are drained by use of suction gun to draw out the old fluid and the gun is used to replace with your favorite differential fluid plus GM positraction additive.
