I just thouught I would share that I was reading through some 1982 Dealer Service Technical Bulletins and there was a couple sheets indicating GM had come out with revised PROMs in AUG 1982 to correct air-fuel issues particularly during cold idle and operation. The object of new PROM was to lean fuel calibration during cold engine operation and unlock the torque converter at a lower throttle opening. There was an update in August and another in Sept of 82. Probably additional updates released later on.
I've read of guys trying lots of creative things to try to get early fuel injection systems running right with spotty results. If your car has rough engine operation, it may be worth checking the PROM version and see if there have been updates from GM. May resolve some problems, or at least eliminate some questions.
Hi,
I'll have to check out the PROM on my 82. I had the ECM changed, but I think they just swapped the old PROM into the new ECM. My car runs very rich when cold and the locking converter is just a PITA! I wonder if there is a date code on the PROM?
Thanks,
Tom
