Hi everyone, I need some advice on my current set up. I just installed a factory L82 air cleaner set up on my 78. The car is originally an L48 car but no longer has any part of the original engine. When I close the hood, the front part of the L82 aircleaner where it brings air in from the front touches the hood when closed. Is this normal? Also, when the hood is closed and pushing on the front plastic piece of the air intake, its pushing down on the fan shroud and causing the fan to slightly rub on the shroud from time to time, especially while braking. Does the L82 have a different fan shroud for this, or should I just clearance the shroud to clear the fan?
I have the dual snorkel stock air cleaner and have had no rubbing problems. I have two pics in my profile to look at. I have heard the poly engine mounts ride a little high, did you change them from stock rubber? Other than that, something is missaligned in the fenders and hood which is making them sit lower towards the engine so that when you close the hood, it's squashing everything below. In fact I, replaced the seals for the radiator and it came with a 1 inch high piece of foam to sit in between the air intake on top of the rad and the hood.
I also had the fan clutch or clutch fan (whatever) wear out to the point it would rub when I made left hand turns. Replaced it and it went away. Check all your mounts if it truely only rubs when braking.
