Default Chiltons or Haynes?

who do you think provides the most info? soon to be diving into it...and need to know whats the best manual for those hard questions that need answers quick.....

what do you think about their "we tore the car completely down and rebuilt it" claims? ive found many to be unfaithful...ahh well huh?

Haynes is much better....I have both. But you really need copies of the G.M. shop and assembly manuals, IMO.

I have most all of them, I'm pretty sure the service manuals for the early vettes have no overhaul info.{71-77}. The later one's do...{78-82}.

The company that produces them for G.M. is Helm, inc. I'm sure the older ones are out of print, only copies are available. I see you have a 1980, I would get one before there are no more.

I'm not sure about the suspension detail, look up my shop phone number in my profile, call me Tuesday. I'll look in the 1980 manual and check it for ya. BTW, the shop manuals are designed for experienced mechanics, so the editors leave out the basic knowledge stuff.

IMO as well, the Hayne's types are good if you need to know how to do things like change the oil and routine maint. other than that they aren't very useful if you already have a basic knowledge of the car.

Check ebay. I picked up a factory service manual in pretty decent shape for less than $20. Can't remember the exact amount. I also picked up a wiring diagram for $12.

Sometimes you just have to check often and wait for one to come up cheap.

Good luck. I love my service manual!!!
