Default Carb and tranny question?

I have a '74 with 350 auto. First what type of trans are in these cars? Second, I have a Holley 4 barrel with the numbers 80457-2 (or Z instead of 2) stamped on it. While reading on Holleys web site they say this carb when used on GM applications must be with the T700. Are the components in the Vette compatible?

Your trans should be a TH350. I don't think 350's in '74 ever came with a holley, I believe they were all Q jets, but I may be wrong. Carbs used with the computer controlled trannies are feedback models, at least the late Q jets were. You can use a later carb on an earlier setup, but not the other way around, albeit it's more complicated and there's stuff you'll end up plugging or bypassing. You'd be better off with an earlier Q jet especially if you already have a spreadbore intake. But if your car runs ok the way it is, and not getting terrrible mileage, leave it alone.

The trans used in the 74 cars was the turbo 400. The Holley carbs were last used in 72 on the LT1 motors. You should have a Qjet carb if it is original. Look at the pan on the transmission. If it is square it is a turbo 350. The 400s used an oblong pan that was definitly not square. The trans could have been changed. Most likely a 400 though.
