No published spec, but anything more than 1/16 inch needs looking at.

Hi guys I want to point out that there has never been a published spec on yoke endplay that I know of.
When asked about this I inquire if the diff is in the car or out. If in the car and there is no other reason to work on it, then under .030 is ok. If you have more then .050" I'd consider replacing them.
The snap ring groove is .187 from the end. Typically these were case hardened which is about .030" deep.
Also when you reach .100+ of wear the powdered metal ends up in the oil, it will not turn it into a paste but it's not good for the bearings either. If you have that much wear I'd rebuild it and do it right, but that's a lot more money then just replacing the yokes so you have to decide what you want to do with the car.
Good luck
Gary
