Default Differential input seal,,, tips??

In the process of a rear suspension overhaul, and one of the things to replace is a leaking input seal on the diff. It is presently removed from the car. Is there something I should know before I start removing the center bolt and yoke ? any measurements or adjustments to be done ? In the process I will be opening up the diff for a complete flush and cleaning, and I don't expect any surprises as it functions very well and smoothly. Thanks for any pointers...

Thanks for the advise, the pics are great, I wasn't to sure about the .125 gap you were refering to but the picture said it all. I removed the cover this afternoon and it looks very nice in there, even the oil was clean and very little residue in the bottom. The use of the engine stand was a very big help for manouvering. If I run into a snag I'll get back to you,, thanks again

you may need to examine the surface that the seal rides on, for wear grooves or scratches. I had to replace mine because there were some scratches that couldn't be polished out. The sad part is that it was a new GM part that came in the box from the GM dealer with the scratches on that polished surface to start with. I had to get another one that luckily was pristine out of the box. solved my leak problem.

I need to replace my front seal as well. Where is the best place to get a new seal? Anyone have a part #?

Is it that much easier to change the seal with the diff on the workbench verses in the car? I'm changing the rear spring right now so I'm a third of the way to dropping the rear end.

Thanks Gary. I decided to just pull the whole rear end out to make the whole job easier. I'm putting on the VBP dual mount spring so I have to get the crossmember down to drill holes in it anyway. Getting the rear down was just a few extra U bolts.
