69 Factory Sidepipes
When I bought this 69 BB about 6 months ago it has 69 style sidepipes, but I was'nt sure if it was this way from the factory (no built sheet or paperwork). The other week when I pulled the body off I noticed fiberglass sheet insulation in the area under the door sill. My local covette guru said this was installed at the factory if the car was built with sidepipes because of the heat. Did anyone ever hear of GM doing this? I never did. Actually its a pretty good way of telling if the car is an original sidepipe because I doubt that anyone would go to the trouble of lifting the body to add the insulation.

You can also look at the rear fenders. Factory side pipe cars use a different fender than under exhaust pipe cars.
The difference? Side pipe cars do not have the "half cut out" for the chrome tail pipe for the underneath exhaust molded into the panel. Under the car exhaust cars have the "half cut out". Chuck
