Default Rocker Channel Removal ?

So I've decided to tackle this project from HELL & R&R my rocker channels. I called Zip Corvette today & they have the parts in 3 pc sets. I asked the guy if I needed to remove the inserts from my car in order to get the new ones in, & he wasnt sure.

My question(s): do I need to get them out?
: if so, HOW? I can see the spot welds that are at the floor pan, but how the heck do you work inside the kick panel area & the small access hole in the rear insert????

I would like to learn more about this too. I have a '73 in need, and I've been debating on whether to sell as is, or do a frame-off. I'm leaning toward the frame-off route.

Here's a link that may be of some value:

I'm hoping somebody else will chime in!

Im going to do mine in the next couple of months. It doesnt look too hard I think the worst thing will be working underneath the channels grinding all the spot welds out with all the rust and crap hitting you in the face.

as i've started tearing into my car i've found a full face shield (as opposed to just goggles/safety glasses) to be an absolute god-send...pick one up at any home center...they help a ton!

The repair parts are made to fit into the rusty rockers and be welded in place without removing anything. I could not see why anyone would want to do it that way. Thats why I bought the inserts and cut out all the old rocker channels. The inserts fit up inside the post to hold everything together. They will not fit in there unless you cut out the bottom of the old rocker channels if you decide to leave them in.

Redwing is right the parts are made to fit inside the old rusted parts. If done this way the rust will be right back.
I bought the insert for mine and took a air cheisel to get the old insert out. When I got it out I used the new insert as a guide by c clamping it in place and drilling holes in the upper piece so i could bolt it in after I cut the rotten metal out. I used parts from a good birdcage to replace the bad section.
Here are some pics of what need to be cut in the rear for access.
I fell sorry for you. But I am glad I went to the trouble to repair mine.
