Default Exhaust Type Recommendations

Can anyone who has gone to duals recommend the type of exhaust set up?

Ecclers?
Mid-America?
Custom made at a performance shop or exhaust shop?
Other?

Are there any differences in performance gains/minus from types listed above?

Thanks in advance
Scott

I installed Stainless Works 2 1/2" 18ga 304 stainless duals with their factory type mufflers. These are mandrel bent, so there are no restrictions where bent. Quality was excellent, and the fit perfect. As expected, they have an original factory sound (ie., not loud). I am very pleased with the end result. They also offer chambered pipes for those that want a louder tone, without mufflers. Check out their site: www.stainlessworks.net for descriptions and prices, etc.

I installed an Allen 2 1/2" system on my 1973 in 1991. The pipes have a faint rust patina now and the mufflers look awesome. Fit was excellent and their service was top notch. I would use them again. Some of the vendors do...

most of the vendors get their parts from the same place so there is very little diff in the quality of the part. I went w/Mid America 2.5 true duals and the performance turbo mufflers. Car sounds sweet. If I had to do it again I would upgrade to the SS pipes & use flowmaster muffles, they have a deeper sound. you didn't say if you were going to change the ram horns, I swapped out mine for hooker comp headers. Looks & sounds sweet.

I know I have been researching this myself and I've found a lot of confusing information, noted areas lacking information, sites that don't include pictures to give you an idea of what it is you're clicking on -- it's very frustrating. I have a 77 4spd manual, and I've been considering going dual exhaust on it, but the only "kits" say they are not "street legal" and don't seem to allow for installation of cats.

So, I'm trying to figure out what can/will work, but it's been a crap shoot, and this board has been the only source of any information.

The one thing that I think I have decided on is to purchase MagnaFlow mufflers for it -- the rest has been a challenge to say the least

Brian.

Just had the local muffler shop weld/bend up some 2.5 inch custom pipes from my ramhorns back into Flowmaster 40s on my '71 coupe. Everybody so far that has heard it always comment on how good it sounds.... low, healthy rumble...havent drove it a bunch, but do not notice the irritating resonance that some complain about with FMstrs.

fwiw,
Timbo

Jims79,

Not clear about the SS pipes???? Also, I've heard about a need for an H or X to be installed with duals. Is this true?

BTW, I'm keeping the original horns...was told exchange to hookers wont give any advantages...thoghts? thanks
