OK, here is the situation. '68 with the L79 small block. It has a Edelbrock Tarantula intake on it, and Hooker side pipes. The alternator brackets were changed to accomodate the header install. My problem here is that the alt belt is slicing into the upper hose. I picked up a new hose from GM and it does not clear the alt belt. I know the alt sits higher because of the new brackets used. I dont think the water neck changed postition that drastically from the original intake.
So, my questions is, how do I get the hose to clear the belt? Anyone find a hose that fits? Can I get a longer alt belt and rotate the alt away from the motor (as far as the bracket will allow) to the point that the belt is essentially lowered?
Someone here must have run into this before........
Do a search there was recently a thread about this very subject. Someone mentioned a belt guard. also it was mentioned to use a Cool Flex radiator hose.
They are pricey but made of steel and I believe you can bend them anyway you need to. Hope this helps.
I had the same problem (although in a stock set-up). Remedy was to rotate the hose so it sat differently. Now it clears OK...
I tried rotating it every which way possible. Could not get the right clearance. I dont really like the look of the braided stanless hose, but if that is the only option I guess thats the way I have to go.
I bought one of those when I put in my Summit Radiator and it fit better than the original 68 upper hose. Just had to cut it to the proper length after checking fit.
