I had to cut my transmission lines that were on my old 700R4, and I was wondering if I could put rubber from the tranny to the original steel lines. I did not want to have to replace the entire line if I did not have to. I found some brake line, but the tubing hole is slightly smaller in diameter than the original. Any advice on this would appreciated.
While there is ATF line I know from expierience that you can use fuel line. Now this is personal expierience maybe everyone's situation is different, what makes you say the fuel line won't work? Don't take me wrong I'm not trying to be argumentitive but if there is something I can learn then good, but for the last 20 years or so if I had to splice a piece of trans line I have always used fuel line with no trouble.
I'm just passing on what I was told at a good parts store. Both ATF and fuel line have the same level of solvent resistance. The difference is that the ATF line also is heat resistant.
i did this once on one of my first cars. the lines would pop at high acceleration. spilled fliud all over my girlfriends dads driveway. it can be done but i dont recommend it
Thanks for the advice. I will get the hose and not concern myself with getting the steel tubing.
If you use rubber line, make sure it's the FUEL INJECTION kind. It's rated for 100+ psi, where the cheapo stuff might actually blow under tranny pump pressure.
I've got about 8 feet of this in my 79 (from trans all the way to my tranny cooler and back) and haven't had any problems in 3+ years.
