saw an ad in a hot rod mag about a company that changes muncie trannys into 5 or 6 spd o-drive....anyone know of that co. called gearworks or something similar....any thoughts?
That company is Autogear in NY. New case and based on M22 gears both close and wide ratio will be available. I guess he is still working on the shifter so no date for release yet. Will be an internal rail shifter. I am waiting for one of these myself. Hopefully soon!
Just to be clear, the one I am referring to is a brand new 5 speed overdrive Muncie, not a 4 speed. No mention of the 5 speed on Autogear's website but its coming.

The last pricing info I saw was it will be 2400 with the shifter. Not cheap but given it is truly a direct bolt in with the possible exception of the bigger yoke, it will be cheaper and less hassle than a Tremec conversion.
It will be a little cheaper but the Tremec was one of the more hassle free mods I have done to the car. I'll be curious how hassle free and bolt in this Muncie 5 speed will be.
I am too GordonM. I have heard about this thing for as long as you and am currently nursing my 625 horse 502 along with the stock M21. I have seen the member 5Speeds post here so hopefully he will chime in here with an update. I have wanted a Tremec but figured I would wait to see about the Muncie first.
I got to impatient. I found a great deal on a Tremec kit from a forum member who decided to go another way. I purchased his kit from him that had never been used for quite a bit less than the kit was being sold for. Have they given any torque ratings for the new Muncie 5 speed.
I traded emails with him in May 04- he said it was about 1 year out at that time. I asked him to put me on his customer list & let me know when it was being released but I haven't heard a word. I'll hit him up for an update & post the results here if I hear from him.
Les, there is a guy over on the Chevelles forum who is buddies with George at Autogear and he posted recently that they had the shifter problem resolved and that it was a matter of starting to ramp it up for production.
Gordonm, this guy Wally doesn't believe too much in these torque ratings per say but in a thread I did get out of him that it should be every bit as strong as a TKO-600. He sells or will sell both transmissions as well so I do believe him on that. Thats right as I remember you bought the tranny from Joe (Flareside) right? Any idea what is up with him? Last I remember he was making fast progress on that 68 body off. He disappeared rather quickly from here.

I hope the guy at the Chevelle forum is right. George emailed me back today & said they think they have the synch. probs worked out & they're working on the internal shift linkage now. He didn't give a timeline for completion though.

He was on here quite a while ago then all of a sudden just went away and I have not heard from him at all. I did buy it from him. Good memory
