I've got a 74 Vette that currently has a sad 350. I've been looking at a 383 stroker and still highly considering but a friend has a 427 that would only need cleaned up, connecting rods, and pistons + rebuild for $450. I'm really considering this and wondering what I would have to do to drop this 427 into my Vette. BTW: I'm still new to restoring cars and appreciate everyone's help on this forum. I've met some stuck up vette owners who don't like talking to newbies. It's great having somewhere to ask questions.

1974 Corvette black w/ primer gray
350 250hp needs rebuild
Turbo 350 eventually will be 5 speed
Does the 427 come with the assessory (alt., power steering, etc.) brackets, this can add up to buy new. You should also consider things like new exhaust and upgraded cooling capacity. The front coil springs should also be beefed up some for the added weight of the big block.
There are many here that have gone to big blocks and can clue you in, but I think it's a great idea. Just remember that these things always end up costing about twice as much as planned
If the 427 came from a Corvette with all the accessory drive brackets do it.
Otherwise I would build a high horsepower small block.
This type of conversion is not really low budget. Cooling system, clutch, exhaust and suspension upgrades will cost more than a new/rebuilt small block.
For overall balance I think the lighter small block is a better balance.
I currently have a '69 big block.
the sheer awe factor of the BB is cool as well as the HP you can get out of one but the power to weight ratio you can get with a SBC is extremely hard to look past...
