I have a 73 with TH400. I have a persistent fluid leak on the passenger side as near as I can tell. I can wipe things down and drive around the neighborhood just fast enough to go through the gears and I get no leak. (I did this to minimize the effect of air flow blowing the fluid around). If I go out and run at highway speed fluid is on the tunnel and exhaust and around the modulator.
Things I have done:
Replace pan gasket
new o ring on modulator
pulled vac on modulator and it held overnight
pulled starter and torque conv cover to check front seal (twice)
(no obvious sign of a leak there - seal new 1500 miles ago)
does not appear to be the dip stick tube or o ring or blowing out
the dip stick tube)
Once wiped down it will sit for extended periods without dripping - I am at a loss.
I Will Bring This Back To The Front To Say The Problem Has Been Resolved. I Changed The Modulator And The Leak Has Stopped.
The Old One Was Leaking Through The Housing Where It Is Crimped. To Isolate The Problem, I Put Al Foil Over The Modulator. There Was More Fluid On The Inside Of The Foil Than On The Outside.
It Seems A Lot Of Us Ask For Help Here On The Forum But Rarely Do We Follow Up When The Problem Is Resolved. Just My $0.02 Worth.
