Just curious to see how many C3's are running with a ZZ4. Also, what midifications have you made? I have a ZZ4 (LT$ Hotcam and 1.6 rockers) in my 79 with a 4 speed and 3.70 gears. Would like to bump up to 450+ horse if possible. What kind of 1/4 mile times can you expect with 400 to 450 horse. Thanks!
Here's my combination ... not sure of exact horsepower.
Engine
ZZ4 with HotCam & 1.6 rockers
.
5 Spd Manual Trans
3.08 stock rearend
Nitto 455 All-weather performance tires
Performance
1/4 mile =12.8 sec at 107 mph
60' time = 1.9 sec
This is really interesting to me since I will soon install ZZ4 in my 68. 107 mph through the traps means you were making some good horsepower.
What year is your car? Did you use all five gears? Do you have stock exhaust?
My 68 is a convertible and will weigh a little less than 3000 pounds. I have headers on the ZZ4 and will be using initially the stock factory side pipe mufflers. i

- Its a 76 and it weighs about 400 lbs more than yours.
- No, I only use gears 1-4 shifting at 6000 rpm
- I have Dynomax headers going into 3" exhaust back to an X-pipe under the differential, then it reduces to 2.5" to enter Borla mufflers out back.
I still think there is more left in this setup with additional carb. tuning and better shifts. I'm not a very quick shifter at all - definitely my weak point. Here's a chassis dyno run I made last summer.
Thanks for all the replies......looks like the AFR heads are the way to go.
How do "other" heads compare, such as Edlebrock, Bordix, etc? New at this phase, so your input is appreciated.

Very professional looking engineering build-up and performance!!!!
Also have a 79 4spd. ZZ4, hot cam, 1.6 rollers, headers, 750 holly.
hp some where south of 400 were guessing. Stock rear. Just installed so don't have times etc yet.
Anyone out there have a quess on top end?
Since I have the HOTCAM and 1.6 rollers, read that I would have to change pushrods and rollers with AFR heads. Anybody using the GM Fastburn heads on ZZ4? Would that swap be worth it?

It's worth it! What you would have is basically a ZZ430 clone. Use a vortec air gap intake if possible. I never had mine dynoed but a friend of mine owns a 66 BB and a ZO6. He is continually always bragging to other people about how well my car runs. :o I guess that's worth something.

Excellent. Thanks for the reply. Gonna do some homework, since i have already invested in the GMPP Hotcm package. With the air gap intake, do you have any hood clearance issues? I have the Moroso low profile air cleaner with 3" K&N.
Also, changing heads? Have done cam / lifter install. Any special things to know when doing a head change? Thanks.....
Nothing special about installing the heads. The gm head gaskets will give you 9.6:1 compression. If you use felpro gasket # 1010 you can bump that up to 9.7 or 9.8:1. I have an aftermarket hood so clearance isn't an issue for the air gap intake. I think some guys here are using the air gap with drop base air cleaners and clearing the stock hood. You will like this setup.
