Default Greasing 4 speed linkage

I just took my 4 speed shifter apart and cleaned it all up, when you re-assemble it do you grease it up or do you leave it dry so it won't collect dirt? I can't seem to find out in any of the manuals on what to do during re-assembly

Leave it dry. Grease exposed to the elements like that will very shortly be contaminated with road grit. Makes for very nice grinding compound, not so good for lubrication!

Now sprinkling some graphite in there, on the other hand, wouldn't do any harm....

Well, just to keep you confused ...I vote for a little bit of grease on the moving parts...not much, but a thin coat. Graphite would probably work just as well if you think it needs to be dry. I fould a thin coat of grease on mine and put one back there when i put 'er back together.

I vote for dry. After buying my car I found the shifter covered with old grease and grime. After many high pressure washings at the car wash it now shifts better then ever with no grease on it.
Also if your having shifting problems I recommend replacing the transmission grease. Mine was so old it was like mud. I changed it twice since and it now shifts a lot better.
