HEI Distributor knocking
My distributor makes a knocking noise. About 3 knocks per second at idle. It might be something else, but it sounds like it's coming from the distributor. What could this be?
I was in the middle of tuning my carb when this happened. After I heard the knocking, I drove it a few hundred feet and the acceleration felt rough. This could just be in my head, not sure.
I was going to wait till I had enough money to buy a Pro Billet HEI (last piece of the puzzle for the new motor) and pay for a dyno tune, but I'm getting fed up. I might just put it on my credit card and have it tuned on the dyno this week.

Had the same problem on my 76. I had a worn bearing in the distributor. Changed distributors - runs a lot better now.

Make sure the cap is seated properly. On two occasions my dist. knocked, first time I did not seat the cap straight; second time occured on the first start up after I wrecked the black car in my photos. Each time the engine fired and ran good but had a knock in the dist. cap.
my cap wasn't seated right and I had the same knock repositioned the cap and the knock went away
