Default I'm in the 8's !!!

Made my first 8 second pass today!!!! little story to tell first.

I was part of a group of 80 cars that rented Fontana 1/4 mile track today. We were hoping it would not rain and got lucky with perfect drag racing weather. I have never made any full 1/4 passes with this car so it was my first 9 second pass today as well. I made a few passes in the 9.50 range and after a jet change and a few other things the car had gone 9.45 at 140, and 6.01 and 116 in the 1/8th. I was taching 7000 rpms at the traps and due to the fact this is just a shakedown motor (actually out of my street car) while I learn to drive the race car I did not want to spin the L-88 rods higher than 7000 rpms. However, I have a Fogger system on this car and since this is the last time I will see a 1/4 mile track for a while I figured what the heck, lets do it. I flowed the nitrous side fuel pressure at 6.5 lbs (.019 fuel jet and .022 nitrous jet) warmed the bottle up to 950 psi and took 6 degrees of timing out. Since I was having a little problem getting the car to hook in the first 60' with just motor and transbrake I decided to leave on the motor and as soon as I felt the tires hook, hit the juice. I timed it pretty well and went 5.77 at 126 in the 1/8 and a 8.95 and 153.5 in the 1/4. I gotta tell you I was puckering a little watching that tach go way past 7000; the whole time the shift light glaring at me.

All in all it was a great day. I am going to put some bigger jets in it and run the 1/8 at the local track.

Impressed, from a laughing gas guy. You had to be pushing 8000+ through the trap. WOW

The cars usually 60' in the very low 1.3's, sometimes a 1.30 Today was best of 1.33 up to a 1.38.

4.56's 32.5's

Well my sim wasn't far off. It said 9.3's at 140+ on just the motor. Not bad.

very impressive. but now you have a big problem. its like when you get an A on the first exam, its easy to do worse and very difficult to do better. congradulations there are very few of us that will ever feel that kind of acceleration anywhere except taking off in a plane!

Way to go John! This must be a pretty good feeling. How many passes do you have on the car now?

Are you still going to build that bigger motor?

Ya, it was great.

Mike, I did not have to open the chute. The shut down area is very long. Alky?? Wow.

Steve, good to see you back around here. I have 15 or so passes on the car. I am going to finish the 555 late this year or next. I am going to step up on the jet and try to go a 5.30 @ over 135 in the 1/8 with this motor.
