My 72 350 came with from the previous owner with edel 600cfm on there so I left it, but this weekend I got bored so I put the Q-jet back on there for the hell of it, and the car has more power it seems. Doesn't idle as smooth, but more power. I thought I would share for those are contemplating removing the Q-jet in favor of a edelbrock. The car is a L48 350 with a mild cam upgrade, 72 LT1 heads, edel intake, elect ign.,stock exh man with 69 sidepipes.
Qjet is 750 cfm, edelbrock is 600. Qjet probably has smaller primary bores ... snappier throttle response ... Qjet definately has larger secondaries ... more power potential. IMO, a good Qjet is a better performing carb than a good edlebrock 600.
I have a 1971 coupe with a 350/270hp motor and it has a Eldebrock RPM intake and a Eldebrock carb and I was thinking of putting the Rochester on it but someone told me that the Q-jet wont fit because of the bore on the intake, square vs spread bore, and I haven't taken off the Eldebrock to look yet. Does that sound right?
It depends which intake you have...they have two different carb patterns, square and spread. The edlelbrock will fit on both, but the q-jet will only fit on spread pattern. Take your carb off and you'll be able to tell.
[QUOTE=sweethence]Which edelbrock carb are you talkign about? I have tyhe edelbrok Qjet replacement also at 750 cfm and i love it, ill rebuild the original later
No, I'm talking about the std sq bore edlel, not the q-jet clone. If I needed a q-jet I would get the one you have also.

Edelbrock 14xx series are squarebore clones of Carter AFB ... IMO, a good Qjet is better than a good EB 14xx.
Edelbrock 19xx series are spreadbore clones of Rochester Qjet ... and, sadly, EB no longer offers them.

Pretty sure Edelbrock RPM P/N 7101 is squarebore only ... Edelbrock RPM P/N 7104 fits both spreadbore and squarebore
I have the qjet edelbrock 1903 it was one of the best things Ive done for the car
Same here except mine is a 1904. I had to have it rebuilt right away because the knucklehead I bought it from misconfigured it horribly and I was clueless as to what was causing the problem.
If you can find an Edelbrock q-jet clone, they're excellent carburetors!
