Hallo!!!
I´m new in your forum and from Austria and so please excuse some mistakes!
My question: My C3 (made 74) should have 350 cui and 195 HP original
automatic TH400
Now i found following code: 38GM 3970010
VO813CHH
181104429
From the German Corvetteforum I know that that is not a corvette engine. I think an Impala Engine (made 78) 350cui with 170HP
The seller told me with a holley carburetor 600cfm and the holley manifold (dominator II) this engine has also 195HP
Is this true???
Please write in an easy english!!!
Thanks
Alex
Thank you!!!
This means i have an engine with 350cui with 170HP
But I think it is not possible to become 20 HP with a Holley carburetor and manifold, or?
Because they told me it is possible!!!
The stock carburetor and manifold is sufficient.
The easiest gain of horsepower would be to install Headers and Dual 2.5 inch exhaust.
Changing the carburetor and manifold wont let the gases out any quicker.

the stock intake manifolds are pretty good they are just heavy.....you will want to improve the other marginal areas first....for the exhaust manifolds go to headers, for the exhaust system go to 2.5 inches and duals with a low restriction muffler, an x or h pipe, your stock carb is the Qjet and is a good performing carb when its tuned right...

Thanks!!!
I have headers and a "sonic turbo" Dual exhaust. Also exists a muffler but I don´t know what kind of it.
I think my engine must be tested to be sure how many HP exists.
But I want change the Holley products.( no Choke, no 2nd vaccuum,...)
I think i will change to Edelbrock products.
They told me it is a good product, and easier to handle than the orig. Rochester
Is this a good Idea ???
Thank you!!!

To answer your question, you are right, they are wrong. A carburetor and intake swap will not get you 20 hp. It won't even get you 5 hp. Even if the original engine had a 2bbl carburetor, you could still not get 20 hp with the swap.
It's a common mistake made worldwide. Most engines don't see horsepower gain with a carb and intake upgrade until the cam, compression, heads, and exhaust are improved.

there are many good choices...make sure you know what the opening inthe intake looks like there are two different types of carbs....if you want max performance and adjustability then a speed demon is a great carb, holleys are very similar, the edelbrock is also a great carb with some of there carbs having a minimum of adjustments. not really a performance carb but a great running carb. i have a speed demon and like it
