hi, the weak point on my performnce handling set up are tires, i have at moment 275/60/15 rear and 255/60/15 front cooper tires, they look good but they dont hook at all and if i floor the gas pedal with my 575hp engine its just imposible to drive at all, i know i would have to go into 17/18'' wheels territory to find something really good but i like my 15'' minilites and dont want to change them for now, question: is there a proper performant tire which would suit my application? thanks
Buy the Vintage Wheel Works 16" Minilite lookalikes and run Kuhmo Vrated tires. You will have to decide what you want, 235-60-16 WR rated tires (a little skinny but at $62 each, they are a steal) 255-55-16 VR rated truck tires (they are OK but, I think the 235 tires will have better stick than these tires) or 265-45-16 V700 Victoracer tires (probably the most EXTREME tire you can run on a street car, they STICK LIKE GLUE but, may have increased puncture rates because of their soft race style tread compound.) I will admit some bias, I am a sucker for Minilite wheels and own a set of 14X6.5 Minilites off a 68 Camaro or Yenko Stinger Corvair that I still can't bear to part with. Or you could put some drag radials on the rear. I've got 275.60.15 Nitto 555 drag radials and they stick pretty well on the track and the street. Don't last near as long as a normal street tire and aren't so great in the rain but cheaper than new set of wheels and tires.
The choices for 15" performance tires are VERY limited unfortunately. 16" is just limited and you don't get much choice till you get to 17" or 18". Just one of the joys of a 30 year old car.
