Default Central/remote doorlocking

Did a search, but no luck. So: who has changed their door locks to (remote) central doorlocking?

I'm thinking of doing this, but I'm afraid to run into several issues with for example the anti-theft locking mechanism.

By the way: on my '79, when I unlock the driver side door, the passenger side remains locked. But when I use the anti-theft button on the inside, both doors lock/unlock. Is that supposed to work that way?

Thanks in advance

That is the way it is supposed to work. Go to a local hot rod shop and see if they sell a remote entry/anti theft system--most do. It should work on your '79

The anti theft system really never worked very well in my 80 so I took my car to my nephew who owns a stereo shop and had him install an alarm system with remote locks and start.
Not sure what the price tag was since he never charges me for anything but the system works really well. Think it was a Viper?

The options section of the '79 AIM ought to show you everything you want to know concerning the factory installation and will provide the original part numbers. The AIM will also show whether the power lock wiring harness is part of the existing door harnesses or whether you will need some additional wiring.

Unfortunately hotrod shops do not exist in my country. Specialized shops for USA cars do, but charge a fortune for everything ($70/hour and up).

By the way: power door locks I have. I'd just like to be able to operate them both via remote.

Allright, thanks so far

$70 an hour. Unless that is not US money....thats not a bad deal! There are lots of places around me that charge $95 per hour and more.

My '79 has the power door locks too. The key will only open the door you are unlocking, not the other door at the same time. I have seen several guys use the Viper brand keyless entry which allows you to use your actuators already in the car. I bought mine from a local custom shop for around $100.00. It is a nice option to have.

Viper you say, Viper I'll look into then. Using existing actuators sounds good, most other kits have their own (flimsy).

This is something that I have been thinking about too.

Here is a link.

Viper Car products

I don't need all the remote start junk, but the doors might be cool...GPS? Maybe?

I don't want to get my car back in 37 yrs....
