Aint that the truth! I could not afford what little I do to my car. I can't imagin the shop rate if I delivered my car to a shop like the day I was out road racing and my motor starting spitting water out one exhaust pipe and misfiring bad. It was suffering from blowing water into a cylinder from overheating, over revving, and bad lifter roller wheel that also took out the cam.

What were you doing, driving it hard or something? George, you're too lucky with all that open space.

Good questions and information here.

I recently built a LSX for my 69 Camaro using a 2000 LS1 block with an SLP Stage III (500 hp) head/cam, LS6 intake, injector package. Good stuff.

However, I think your main issue is trying to reign this in for a reasonable amount of money since you already have access to the block????

I just picked up a 2000 LS1 from a Corvette that broke #7 rod, damaged the block and broke the bottom of the sleeve. The heads are fine (of course, not LS6 heads). I have been looking for a repairable solution to this and don't see it right now.

Gmpartsdirect sells a new bare block for $1,000. The 6.0 truck blocks are out there but there is just something cool abou the ALL aluminum LSx engine.

I ended up fully cleaning and detailing my spare LS1 including installing some components and mounting it on an engine stand in a display area of my shop. It is a $250 paper weight now.

Good luck on your project. You are going to LOVE how these LSx motors go together. Once you do this you will NEVER full with a standard small block again.

Not open road. 3.8 mile road course called "ThunderHill" in Northern California.

The bad thing is the event was put on by these guys.

http://www.speedventures.com/1-20-2006_event.asp

It was a two day event. I paid $375 for even and an additional $20 per day for the transponder. You had to give a credit card deposit on the transponders.

Well I blew up half way through the first day on Sat. So i told the orginizer that i was going home and I wanted a refund for the Sunday event and second day transponder.

Well the rotton no good head two guys at Speed Venture acknowledge that they owed me the money and always give me the check in the mail story. But what's worse some sepperate entity was doing the $20 dollar a day transponders. Because they had my credit card number they continued to charge me for transponder rentals at every event through the summer until I got VISA fraud division after them. They had me renting transponders at races all over the place every couple of weeks.

I've kept all the e-mails from them and I'm going to show up at one of their events and drive for free.

I'm sure that a 402 will be impressive compared to a wimpy 346 ci Z0-6

Gkull - I would just buy a used cam off LS1tech or this forum. There are plenty of racers on both forums that change cams out like candy. Most sell for $200 and under. A few over that, but they are custom grinds.

The other thing, is losing the ZO6 heads means you lose the lightweight valves, which are the biggest seling point of the head. Are the heads that bad? Could one be sold to recoop some funds for the new cam?

No, my motor that had problems was my 383 which I replaced in the spring of 2005 with my 427 ci. I hope that it lasts for years. That is why i'm installing the TKO600 to take away that strain of the power robbing automatic tranny.

Budman.

There are several subjects going on here. The 402 high compression and water injection is really part of this post. Their has not been a final decision on what cam or whether to repair or replace the existing Z0-6 heads.

Yes, I know all about swapped out cams from racers. The actual Z0-6 owner is watching these post and looking at all ideas.
