Morning-Posted a thread a couple weeks ago about fitting an Edelbrock RPM manifold under the hood of my 68 Vette, and got a few encouraging replies. Did the Play-Doh test on the air cleaner, and found it will work with about a 1/4" of clearance.
Now with this bit of progress, along with being unable to procure the 400 block that has been cluttering up my friend's garage, I've decided to go with a 383. Already talked to Larry's Performance, they can set me up with a block and crank kit for $1100, some assembly required.
Thought about TFS 420 head kit, but found out the heads are angle plug, and won't work with my headers. So now....
Took a look at the Edelbrock E-tec heads pn EDL-60989 from Summit. I haven't decided what cam to use, but it will be a hydraulic non-roller. I will likely top everything off with an RPM air-gap and Holley 750 vs.
The whole assembly is getting bolted onto a BTO 200-R4 and 3:73 gears.
The question is.... anyone using these heads? Any suggestions on the cam? I'm going for low-end torque, as well as being able to punch it on the freeway. I'm no stranger to engine building, but I know there are lots of guys out there with tons more experience at it than me! I'd like to hear your comments/suggestions thanks!
Hot Rod built a 383 with E-Tec heads a few years ago with a flat tappet solid cam & victor jr. intake. it make 530 hp. The article is called 530 h.p. from spare parts. I believe it is in the hot rod horsepower hand book, avail. in book stores.
My Bad... I just checked he hot rod book & it's not there. Perhaps the chevy hiperformance "book" (funny i just saw this the other day, now can't find it) jim
Don't forget that the E-Tec head is a Vortec style head requiring a Vortec manifold. The Performer RPM is available in a Vortec style using a square bore carburator.
