Default LT1 intake manifold

Just sent my carb to Holley for refurb. I will post before/after pics when I get it back. While its away I want to make my intake manifold look like new. I believe it is aluminum on an LT1 also unpainted (?). What is the best way to clean or refinish it without pitting ot damage? Is it possible to do so without removing it?

Thanks
Neil

Neil, hopefully somebody with some sense will reply to you. I THINK you can bead blast the intake, not for sure. What does the intake look like now? My LT1 engine compartment[IMG][/IMG]

Mine looks very similar to yours. I cannot post a pic of mine on this computer but will do so later.

mine was done while the engine was being rebuilt, so youd have to take it off, but a regular old parts washer cleaned mine up really well...

If you ever want your intake manifold to look original do NOT bead blast it. Bead blasting will forever change the appearance. Instead, try some heavy duty carb cleaner. The local auto parts shop, owned by my friend, put my intake in a tub of "heavy duty" cleaner. It stunk so bad that his wife made him change clothes before he came in the house. I do not know the name of it but i was impressed with the outcome. I have had good luck with AlumiJelly or however you spell it. It is similar to Naval Jelly, an acid, and actually cleans the surface with acid. If you go this route, go slowly and increase the time that the manifold is exposed to the acid gradually, until you get the desired results.

LT-1 intake manifolds were painted at the factory. On my 71 I just cleaned with a degreaser and painted. Here's a pic.
