Default 73 Mirror Questions

I have a 73 Convertible i just bought and the outside mirror (drivers side) head is loose and flops down when the wind blows it. Is there a secret way to tighten the mirror head, i have tried putting grease on it and want to avoid drilling if i can? Also, second question, I want to buy a matching passenger mirror, will I need to remove the interior door panel to put the backs on the screws or is there another way? Are these mirrors called 'small head mirrors' vs. the 'large head' on later years? Thanks.

your stock mirror is a large head mirror...one way to tighten the head, use clear silicone or crazy glue, either will work. Position the mirror then apply. If You use crazy glue, apply a small amount and be carefull that the stuff doesn't drip on your door.

nope crazy glue or silicone not the way. heres the way: use a center punch and put dimples into the ball. move mirror all the way to the right. hold and support entire assembly with one hand and place 3-5 punches around the ball. move it to the left and do the same. up all the way ,again punch and then down. this will work indefinately if your the only one setting the mirrors. with multiple changes it may have to be redone.
