Default Help? Power Door Lock Accuator Bad

Anyone ever have to replace one of these on a 1979? I got the door panel off, power window motor cover off, I have spotted the accuator but it is not clear how it comes out of the door. It is somehow attached from inside the door and it is not clear how to remove it. I have an original shop manual but it does not cover the replacement/removal of the accutator - just the electrical aspects. The accuator still works a little but it drags real bad. The linkage is solid and works great - I just think the motor is tired. Help anyone? Thoughts??

I had mine out about a year ago. Did not need a book or anything for directions. Shine a light inside the door panel and also look at the door panel on the outside where they would be bolted. You should be able to figure out what bolt holds it to the door. The plunger has a rod that goes to linkage and has a curve in it that locks it to the linkage. Again, easy to disconnect and reattach. Are you sure it is the actuator and not the control that is bad?

There is an access plate which is held on by several screws. Then to remove the actuator you will need to drill out the rivets holding it in. Unplug the old one plug in the new and your done.
If you don't have a pop rivet gun you can use bolts to hold the new one in. These actuators are available at most local parts houses for around $30.

Mine were bolted in my '79. Seems the door panel already had nuts welded to the door panel; but its been a year.

try cleaning all the electrical contacts first, and see if you can clean the actuator rod also, mine had grease & a lot of dust on it. while i was at it & used a spray grease on all the pivot points. mine work better now, not 100%, and i have found that they work better when the car is running, getting a full shot of electricity.
