Have a few paint chips including one that is about the size of a pinky fingernail. Touched up with paint that was left over from the dealer
during some body repairs. However, the touch up is not glossy looking.
How do I get this to look closer to the surrounding area? Have tried rubbing compound on another car, without much luck.
I think you're talking more about the finish than the color. I've seen the clear finish in the paint sections of Pep Boys, etc. Going over the color with that would probably bring the gloss up to match.
You are right, it's not the color, but the finish. The color is right on, but looks flat compared to the undamaged area around it. I thought about a clear top coat to bring out the gloss.
Yes,
clear top coat will help, make sure it's very thin , so that it runs nicely to the corners and doesn't leave a thick bubble type coat behind.
I hate this little stone damages.
