Default side yoke question

I need to order some side yokes for my 71 big block. some say u bolts or heavy duty with threaded caps. I think mine would be the threaded cap version since the yokes themselves are threaded and a cap holds the u joint in. am I correct?

Yes the SB 4 spds came with U bolt yokes the BB and SB AT came with the "HD" threaded cap yokes. Be sure to check because those caps are about $25 used.

My 69 SB AT has u-bolts. Maybe they changed the design in the 70's?

wouldn't used ones be worn also? I would buy some for $25 if they were good. looks like the going price is about 100.00 for new ones.
I have .055 one one and .065 on the other, the diff is out of the car.

Replace both of them while it is out with hardened ones. They will last for a long time. Do it right the first time and you won't be pulling it out again.

thats the plan, it is out for the frame off, actually everything is out for the frame off. this car will only see about 1500 miles a year but I still want it right. this car should last for many years to come

The caps themself usally don't wear out. I just meant to check and see which yoke you have so you don't order the wrong type. Plus if you do have the U bolt type and want to go to the HD type you'll need to buy caps. Gary Gruhala wouldbe able to supply you will good used ones.
