I recently purchased a '73-'82 body mount kit and I have hesitated to take on the project because I need advise. The old rear mounts up under the rear wheel wells are rusted and dry, cracked and compressed and look like they should be replaced. The other mounts along the frame look alright, but I will replace them if I can. My question is-- Is it possible (or advisable) to replace these mounts without pulling the body off ?? I read somewhere that re-aligning the body panels may be affected by this service, and I really don't want to start up yet another nightmare project. If any of you have thoughts or experience on this please let me know. I'm only looking at this project because of visual inspection. I haven't felt any movement or slop in the ride quality.
Steve,
I replaced the body mounts on my 81. It was an easy job to do. If you want let me know and I will email you the directions to do it. It took me about 5 hours on a Saturday afternoon. You just have to jack the body up about 1 inch. rcooper1@hvc.rr.com
Thanks, I will e-mail you. I'm hoping to replace just the rears unless it makes sense to do all of them. I'm really not looking to break any of the sealant/seams that are bonded, so whatever it takes..... thanks.
If it's just the rears, they are totally accessible without doing anything. A little something like a pry bar to initially compress the rubber to fit it in and you're good to go.
