Default Brake pad recommendation

I'd like to get some ideas on brake pads for a 72BB for some spirited street driving.

I was looking at the Hawks and performance friction.

I'd like to hear some opinions!

Thanks.

Metal pads eat rotors and make them consumable. Organic pads are really good to the rotors but suffer with brake fade.
For that one hard stop every now and then organic will match metalic but for repeated hard stops you need metalic.
If you like your rotors and want them to last use organic, if you want repeated hard stopping power go metalic but be ready to replace your rotors.

I use Hawk pads on my BB. Great pads. Just need to drag the brakes a little on my way out of the driveway to heat them up a little. Other than than, no special instructions.

Re stock pads....think you really have to hit them hard many times before getting fade....mettalics will definately hot spot your rotors...

I'm with Norval ... unless on a track, I would prefer cheap organics.
They used to have these at $10 an axle ... now $15.

... or you can get the Hawks for $70 an axle.
I'm sure they stop great.

I tried the ceramics and didn't like them. Worked ok once they were warmed up, but had a harder pedal. Went back to the organics and I'm satisfied. I run autocross once in a while with some pretty hard braking, for short time periods, and don't have brake fade. Be sure to use the high temp brake fluid. Just like many after market parts aren't as good as oem parts, I think alot of racing type products don't work as well as stock parts on the street. We all get suckered in by the advertizing and the hype sometimes. Remember Prolong, and now K&N??

i've had performance friction pads on my car for years and never had a problem. in fact, the rotors are still the 25 year old stockers. i lean on them pretty hard and the only time i have ever experienced fade was after about 15 minutes into a 20 minute track session.
switch over to some braided brake lines (russell, from summit) and blue oval DOT3. make sure you bed the pads properly and you should be fine.

Best pad and rotor for my money for street driving - Bendix.
Or some other equally excellent BRAND name. I've had terrific luck using Bendix brake parts over the years.

If you really want to improve brake performance convert all of your calipers from the sliding type to multi-piston fixed calipers. And you'll really notice a difference in braking. And use Bendix pads and rotors...

I too am using Bendix Brake pads. Semi Met up front and Organic in the rear. I really liked the feel of this set up as the semi mets had a coating on the pad to help it seat onto the new rotors. I got a good stop right from installation. Now 3000 miles later it stops well, no squeeks and handles Los Angeles traffic well. I have been happy.

Anyone try the kevlar pads? I bought a set for my drilled and slotted rotors but it won't be on the road till spring. Don't want to screw up the new rotors.

Kevlar is a very tough material and I think you'll notice accelerated rotor wear.

Hawk HP pads and Motul Fluid, also have braided stainless lines with "O" ringed pucks. Great setup for lapping events (which is most of my driving). But Organic can't be beat for street cruising.
