Factory convertors are not rated with a stall speed. What would me more appropriate, I think, is for you to tell us what cam you have and what kind of driving you do, so we can recommend a stall speed for you.

I'm thinking stall with a TH350 auto is @1800RPM. The 700 shouldn't be much different.

Haven't bought the cam yet, which comes first?
The rest of the motor is a .030 over 350 block, 9.7/1 D-dish pistons. 383 crank, 5.7 rods, external balance. The top end is a 1969 Z-28 472 intake, 3310-750-vac secondary carb and 2.02/1.6 valves closed chamber 64cc iron heads, 041X castings, GM.

Thanks

VERY basically speaking, think of stall as the max speed your engine will rev with the brake applied before the tires spin. You want the TC to be supplying max power to the tranny at the same time your engine is just at or approaching its max HP or torque. Before buying a TC or cam, give a call to the cam company of choice and ask them for their recommendations for your ride and usual driving conditions. You can over cam a car, it will sound great, but you will loose performance on the lower RPM scale and you will also loose durabitity of the valve train.

I guess it depends on how you want the car to 'feel' if most of your driving is on the street....

with a tight converter, say from a truck, the stall is near 800 rpm or so....that's really tight, so when the tranny shifts you will feel it, unlocked....that pleasing nudge in the *** that feels like a stick shift....I personally like that feel....

lotsa other guys, especially drag racers, want that thing to slip damn near as much as possible....reason, it lets the engine quickly up to max power, and so the TC losses are minimal after that, thing is....for the street, yeh, I feel/more HEAR the tranny shift, but the engine don't seem to care as the RPM's show a very sloppy engagement allmost as if the tranny/clutches were slipping, it's the loose converter.....so the nudge I love is gawn and so, I use a truck converter in my 700.....

I USED to run the converter locked all the time, unless in first gear, by GOD, then you WILL feel the shifts....
it MAY have contributed to the premature 3/4 clutch failure....
I"m on my 3rd set now, went to the tight converter, and leave it computer controlled, IE...unlocked untill 50 mph...
