Default Bent wheel stud repacement

Just got some new trailing arms from Zip, one of them has a bent wheel stud. (damaged in shipping) Do I have to remove the spindle to replace this stud? If I do, won't it mess up the bearing preload?

I would contact Zip first. They should have insurance on their shipped items. If not, they should at least make it right.

Good luck.

The stud can be removed without removing the spindle. It is relatively easy and I would not go through the shipping hastles of getting it corrected, correctly packaged, and reshipped back to you.

If the stud was put in recently is should pound out without too much pounding. That pounding shouldn't effect the bearings. To put in the new stud, just jack it in using the stud threads and some washers.

Good Luck!!

The backing plate and shoes will be in the way. I belive Norval did this job and driled an access hole in the plate? I would call ZIP why start working on something you just bought? You will not be able to remove the spindle easily and without wrecking the new bearings in the process. I have a broken stud on one of my cars from aimport lug nut that froze on it. I have about 3,000 miles on the bearings I installed and will run with 4 studs for now.

The shoes can be removed without distrubing the bearings if you cannot rotate the stud to a clear enough area. If your stud are stock they will not interfer with the backing plate.

I replaced a stud once before I put on my new trailing arms and stuff. I rotated the stud down to the 6 o'clock position and used an impact hammer with a blunt bit to barely ding the backing plate. Then I pounded the old stud out and put the new one in with the new space from the dinged plate. Drilling the hole might be a better option.
