Does anybody know where I can get information on the disassembly process of an A6 Compressor? The Chassis and Service manual gives info on how it functions and some good photos but no step by step on the disassembly process. I'm trying to install new seals.
Why go through all the hassle of rebuilding it when you can usually pick up a rebuilt from Auto-Zone? Unless you're really a "Purist"?
When I had to replace the one on my '78 I looked at Ecklers and others and saw them for several hundred dollars... Auto-Zone had a rebuilt for under a 100 bucks... and it looks just like the original..
It left me with a lot more money for other goodies...
just 2 cents from a cheapskate still paying for two kids in college :-)
Typically speaking the only seal you need bother with is the two o rings on the back where the pipes are clamped, and that pesky front seal on the shaft, for that you need a tool kit to get the plates off without bending hell out of them...doing the seal itself is not all that bad...

I went back to the service manual and looked at the photo of the compressor internals. I then realized the oil tube was stopping me from removing the main shaft. I took a pair of needle nose pliers and easily removed the oil tube. The main shaft and all internal parts slid out of the case with ease!
Thanks for the advice and information. I checked out AC forum and found it to be a very useful site. I learned more than I ever wanted to know and everything that I needed to rebuild my 75 AC system.
