I'm ready to bond the hood surround to the car. I have it in place secured with screws so I could mark out referance points. I have trimed the material at the edge near the door so that it has a very slight gap to allow the doors to open. Should I trim this gap now or wait until I have the fenders bonded to the surround?
I have test fitted, marked the hood, and fender referance points. I still need to adjust the front bumper so I can fit the cover. The Ever Coat bonding adhesive worked great, and it was real easy to use when I installed the bond strips to the surround.
Thanks in advance!!!!

Thanks, Big G. I am going to disassemble it tonight now that I have all the referance points marked. I will paint the inner fenders, and mount the headlights to the surround.
MotorHead,
I would love to build Corvettes for a living. Just the fact of possible layoffs scares me. I have to replace almost the whole front clip on my '78. I was able to slowly trim the extra material off with a die grinder. I used a piece of card stock to trace a duplicate patern of the curve of the door' and transfered this patern to the new surround. I then just trimed until I had a slight gap to allow the door to open.
I also made some adjustment rods out of steel sleve, and 3/8'' all thread that Big G had described to me to adjust the hood, and radiator core support (i'll try to post some pics later).
Dr. Jay,
This dimension may help you keep everything square: the distance from the hood surround drip rail to the back hood hinge bolt hole is 43". This came from the Eckler's Fiberglass Book and it helped me line up my front end. I agree that you should only trim what is necessary to open the door now and finish it later.
