There is a 200R4 transmission that is for sale.It comes out of a 1990 Caprice with a 4.3 motor.First,I thought that these trannys were made only in the 1980s.I am also wondering if this would fit a 350-5.7 motor. Can anyone tell me if this is a transmission that I could use?I'm wondering........
Thanks much

Sounds fine to ME....any chebby bellhousing /200 4r tranny is fine.....
Since your profile lists your car as a 75 stock even if it is the low end 2004R, it should be more than sufficient to handle the horsepower your car is putting out unless you plan on severe horsepower modifications in the near future.
Hey thanks everyone for all the responses.Much appreciated.I do plan on building a stout motor in the future,so It might be worth dropping this thing in for now.The price is right,$100.00 obo. This way I would be set up until I do my build.I'm picking up a 400 2 bolt main block tomorrow. It will take awhile for this motor to get built.Choices, choices,it boggles the mind. Thanks again......
Well, drove the 50 miles to check this tranny and wouldn't you know it,it was theTHM200 lite duty 3 speed. This same thing has happened to me twice now. Here's a helpful hint to those who check the classifieds hoping to find a 200R4.Most of these guys dont't know what the heck they are selling.Always ask them to check the bottom of the pan.If it is stamped with the word METRIC,it is not a 200R4.Sometimes you just learn the hard way.

This is NOT true. Both of my 200R4's have "METRIC" stamped into the pan. One of them was purchased from BTO and it's a Stage 3. I hope they know what they are selling. You have to look at the pan. The 200R4 pan is long and the 200 is square-ish with one of the corners lopped off.

WOW,I'm learning here. The transmission ID & decoding printout that I'm using shows the shapes of the pans. This is the page from www.nastyz28.com/transid.html site. They don't mention the stamped METRIC for the 200R4.The tranny that I looked at last night, had the squarish type pan.But if I remember, the first one I looked at might have had the correct pan. That one was only $50.00.That was also about 4 months ago. That's OK,it's just a matter of time. Thanks folks for letting me know that the 200R4 can also have the Metric stamp.
