Default wiper door and headlight door problem

I getting ready for my car to be inspected. so I start up my 71 and turn on the wipers, nothing. Weird these worked the last time I turned them on. Also tried the override.
So I manually open the wiper door. Wipers come on.

So I turn on the headlights, bulbs light up doors open about a 1/2 inch. Weird, some time they require a tiny bit of help, so I help them.

Now Headlights wont go down, and wiper door stays up.

What would cause both to not work?

I can leave them both up and pass inspection, but I would rather have them working.

I will be out in the garage playing with these today.

Any thoughts?

Oh yea,
Everything for wiper system is new. Changed everything last year.

Take your vacuum gauge and work from the intake manifold toward the headlights and wiper door. It sounds as though you have several leaks in the vacuum system.

From your description of the symptoms, it sounds as though you have a big enough leak to where you should be able to hear it. If you have a piece of vacuum line laying around, you can use it like a stethoscope to help locate vacuum leaks.

so I checked the vaccum at the manifold, checked the check valves, ok.
Going into vaccum tank about 50, in the green. When I get down around the headlights about 20.
It's almost like the actuator is frozen open.
I disconnected all of the vacum lines going to actuator relays. and tried to lightly push down on the headlight casing, and it's like it is in a locked position.

Wiper door.
Same thing, I noticed the wiper may not be pushng down on the safty switch, but when I park the wiper all the way down, it still does not close by it self. When the door is closed and I turn on the switch nothing, but when I open the door the wipers work fine.

Does anyone know what size the nut is holding the eggcrate on is? I removed the screws on the outside, but could harldly see the nut and there is little room to manover to get the thing off. I thought I could check all of the hoses coming off the tank. Is this a waste of my time?

There's linkage on the headlight doors that act like a locked elbow. You need to reach up under the nose to unlock that linkage and the doors will close.
