Default What carbuerator is best

I have always used Holley's in the past but as most know keeping a tune on a holley can be rather time consuming. What is the over all opinion of holley's vs. Edelbrock or Carters. I will be running a 383 with bow tie heads and an xe268 came with 3:70 gears and a four speed. Not alot of drag racing but a fair amount of autoXing. Any sugestions, stories or advice is appreciated.

Check out the Demon line of carbs also (I have an 850dp Demon on my car and am very satisfied). They have made it alot easier to change the jets then the Holleys (although I've heard Holley has come out with a new model that is comparable), they are great performers and are well made out of polished billet aluminum. There have been alot of positive reviews in the press on them as well. If I were buying one it would be between Demon and Holley. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I would look at the float mounting configuration of the carbs your interested in. If your going to autox, I would think a center hung float would offer some benefits over a side hung float. The reason I say this is that when your car is cornering, the gas in the fuelbowls will be slashing around and your floats will be upsetting your needle & valve in a sidehung float much like Edel & Carters. With the center hung like a Holley, the floats stay more stable. Does this make since ?

What about the Quadrajet....everyone here seems to love them!! I have one..in a box on a shelf and I am running an edelbrock 600 that I am very happy with...NOT the greatest performer but VERY Streetable and great mileage...19 on highway vs 12 for the quadrajet :yesnod:

Why not thw Q-jet?
Can make great power if properly tuned plus good gas mileage. I was getting 18+ pn the highway with a rich jetting. After a cam swap and Lars rejetted it, I pulled down 19-20 on thw highway at about 70 mph.
