1973 Passenger door lock

Have a fiend who has a 73, problem is the door lock will not turn... We replaced the latch mechanism with a working on only to have the same problem when installed.

It only seems to hang up once in is screwed down in place... Any one run into this?

I've had the same problem. Ed T's advice is usually right on the money. I will give that a try.
